Yamaha has a motoring brand is typically associated with iconic two-wheelers like the YZF-R1 superbike. At the Tokyo Motor Show however, it decided to show off its four-wheel chops with the unveiling of the Sports Ride Concept. A mid-engined sports car, the compact nature of the Sports Ride Concept is said to mimic the intimate feeling that one gets with a motorcycle on the road. Dimension wise, it may be similar to existing cars from other marques, say the MX-5 Miata by Mazda, but Yamaha goes for featherweight, measuring a scant 750 kilos on the scales.

The McLaren P1 influences that you see in its exterior lines are no coincidence, given that the carbon-fibre framework of the Sports Ride Concept is courtesy, Gordon Murray of the legendary McLaren F1 fame. The dark-grey exterior looks spectacular again the contrast of the saddle-brown leather interiors.

This is further accentuated by generous usage of carbon-fibre around the cabin together with metallic accents.

The likelihood of the Sports Ride Concept making it to production in its entirety remain bleak, but it does indicate the direction in which the manufacturer with the famed tuning forks logo might be looking towards, in the future.
