Houses on wheels are not a trend in India. Makeshift homes are seen on construction sites which have the only bare minimum. If you talk about vanity vans, those have everything but they are super expensive. An Architect from Tamil Nadu has found an affordable housing solution. Let’s take a look at what is offered in this Rikshaw Home.

Rikshaw Home Features

This house has been made by N.G. Arun Prabhu. He is a 23-year-old architect by profession. For this, he took a Bajaj RE pickup as the base skeleton chassis. It is a great example of optimum utilization of space.

If we take the example of the slums in Bombay. To make a basic house of that size it takes about Rs 4-5 lakhs. These houses do not have basic necessities of a house like a proper washroom and Toilet.

On Contrary the Rikshaw home has all the feature that you expect in a house. It even has a sun deck to feel fancy. There is a sink and kitchen rack on the left. Next to it are long windows which allow an adequate amount of light inside this Rickshaw home.

Right in front of the door is the bed but as it is at the eye level it goes well within the design of the vehicle. On the right side of the bed are windows with translucent blinds which maintain privacy allowing light inside. On the lower side of the bed is a portable toilet.

To top off everything there is also a bathtub inside this small space. To power this there is a solar panel at the top which produces 600 watts of energy.

Time and Money

To complete this project the architect took about 5 months. Just the modification took about Rs 1 lakh. So if you have a Bajaj RE Pickup laying around or even if you procure one-second hand you can have a Rikshaw home under Rs 2 lakhs.
