With the entry of smaller sedans and compact SUV in the market, people are not really looking at the D class sedan in India. These are luxurious cars, no doubt, but they are falling prey to their own size. Usually, these cars are not easy to drive in traffic and there are SUVs in this price bracket which offer more. The Skoda Octavia has fallen prey to this. So with the new Skoda Octavia will the Skoda get the crown back?

Spy Shots

Skoda Octavia Side

Recently the car was spied while doing test runs in India. The car was not masked and only the badging was hidden. All that we could see is the new design on the vehicle and some exterior changes.
This new car that is being tested was supposed to launch this year. The manufacturer had to push the launch further in 2021 because of the logistical difficulties during COVID-19. The car that we see is specifically for the Indian market. It gets a lot of chrome on the grille. The headlight setup now has a projector set up with the Matrix LED technology. Also the daytime running lights are included with it.

Skoda Octavia Rear

The car has now become wider than the older generation. The new Skoda Octavia also sits lower than the current generation. The fog lamps are LED and they too have chrome line joining them. The bonnet of the car also has a sharper stance. The Octavia has got this new badging on the boot as all the new Skoda’s have. The bumper design has also been changed both at the front and back.

Expected Engine

Skoda Octavia Front

The Octavia is expected with a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine or a 2.0-litre TSI engine. The 1.5-litre engine makes about 150 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. There only 40 Bhp more on the 2.0-litre engine. It is tuned for more torque at 320 Nm. Both these engines will come with a 7 Speed DSG gearbox.

CKD price

As this car won’t be manufactured here we won’t see a low price tag on it. A CKD unit will cost at least upwards of Rs 18 lakhs which might make you take a dearer look at some of the cars in the lower segment. The Honda Civic or the Hyundai Elantra has a low price tag and make for much better value for money proposition. On contrary, we can also see that this segment looks for the status symbol in cars than value for money. The Skoda badge does offer that and it’s better than other competitors. Lastly, this car is expected to arrive by the start of 2021 but yet there is no confirmation from the company.
