The pickup truck segment in India is not one of the most popular segments present. How many pickup trucks do you see in an urban city? Pickup trucks are mostly used in industrial areas people prefer cheaper alternatives much more dearly. Find out below if Toyota will launch the Hilux Pickup truck in India.

What is the news?

According to our sources, Toyota is conducting a study to determine if people have demand for pickup trucks like Hilux in India. So the launch of the truck entirely depends upon you, the Indian people.  The pickup truck category is a very specific niche category which does not cater to a lot of consumers.  Price and mileage are not the parameters looked here.

What will be the cost?

No official details or rumours are out yet.  If the car is imported as CKD or CBU unit, it will cost very much. However, the Hilux truck uses a lot of parts from Toyota Fortuner and Innova so Toyota can build the car locally to keep the production costs low.

A BIG machine

The Toyota Hilux is a big vehicle. It is mainly built to tow heavy luggage. At 5,285mm length, it is longer than Fortuner and Innova too. It also has a large wheelbase of 3,085mm which provides a spacious cargo bay. The car is made to haul loads and features equally capable rear suspension and heavy-duty leaf springs.

Engine and Performance

The Toyota Hilux is already sold in the international market, where it is quite popular. West moreover, is obsessed with pickups.  A 2.4L and a 2.8L Diesel engine are on offer. Toyota has specially tuned to the engines to produce a high amount of torque at low revs. The 2.8L engine can produce a peak torque output of around 500Nm of torque. That is quite an impressive figure for a car on four wheels.  The Hilux also comes with short gearing for the first three gears to help the pickup carry loads easily. The initial pull to the car is humongous.
