A Different Approach

EVs are no new thing in India. There are already three pure electric vehicles sold in India as of today. Honda, however, realizes the weak charging infrastructure in major areas of India and as a result is focusing on hybrid options. They want to incorporate the best of both the worlds and may become successful in launching a practical and logical car.

What does Honda have to say?

According to our sources, Gaku Nakanishi who is the president and CEO of Honda cars India recently said, “ There will be no change in our hybrid vehicle plan.  Two years ago we shared the electrification strategy and we are going to start production and sales of hybrid vehicles from next year. “ He also added, “ Internally,  to launch a new model we have to plan almost five years ahead and we have already spent 3-4 years of the 5. At the moment we do not have any plan to postpone the project.” This goes on to show that Honda may entice new customers very soon and recover from the slump in the market.

Similarities to Honda Fit

The new car which will be launched can be quite similar to Honda Fit. This was launched in Japan this year.  The 2020 Honda Fit is available with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine paired with an eCVT and two electric motors. This new engine produces a maximum power output of 109hp and a peak torque of 253Nm.
