Omega Arch Tata Harrier

The Tata Harrier was launched last year and took the market by storm. If enticed the consumers and auto journalists all over the country. Now a simple question may arise in your mind thinking what a platform is? To put it simply a platform is the bare bones of the car. It is the foundation base of any vehicle just like a building. If your core structure itself is weak, you cannot improve the quality of the car.  Driving Dynamics, Performance, Handling and Safety are directly impacted by the car’s platform.

This same platform (ΩArch) is present on Land Rover Discovery Sport.  Both Tata and Land Rover engineers have made this platform working together. For those new here, Tata Motor owns Land Rover.

Tata Harrier’s rival to be precise only offers 1 ESP mode.  This shows Tata’s focus and mission.  The suspension of this car is made great too and performs very well both on-road and off-road along with superb handling. Put in simple words, Reliability means the quality of being trustworthy and performing consistently.  Tata Harrier checks both the boxes and is often ignored by consumers.  Land Rover has perfected the Discovery Sport over the years, adding perfection to the car day by day and kilometre after kilometre. Similarly Tata Harrier gets the advantage of Land Rover’s engineers who have worked on the Discovery Sport perfecting it. Tata has maintained the quality of the platform and has still made the car far more affordable.  Fit and Finish of both the cars are quite similar.  You get to trust the product and not depend on the brand name for once.

5. Safety

Tata Motors is the company which has provided safety features in all their cars in the Indian market. You can talk about Tiago, Tigor, Nexon, Altroz and Harrier. All have outperformed their rivals by a significant percentage in terms of safety.  The Harrier’s platform is rigid and strong and gives you complete peace of mind.

High strength steel, crumple zone and a lot of other safety terms are quite similar in both Harrier and Discovery Sport.  You also get 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, 14 ESP modes, parking sensors are all part of the package.  All Tata cars have scored 4-5 stars rating in the Global NCAP safety test, well above the average 2-star rating.

  • The platform is not the same as Land Rover Discovery. It is derived from D8 platform used in Land Rover Discovery. The current Discovery has a different platform – PTA (Premium Transverse Architecture). PTA is the advanced version of D8.
