Maruti Suzuki Jimny MK4 launched in 2018 was the sparkle of eyes in the global car market. The ruggedness, SUV looks and competitive price were tough to beat. But Suzuki is said to scrape the car soon in the global market. Suzuki has already discontinued the Jimny in the United Kingdom and will soon be discontinued in Europe according to a report. There were rumours buzzing around for the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny to launch in India soon. Suzuki

The primary culprit here is the stricter emission norms worldwide. The average emission target for new cars in Europe in 2021 will be around 95g CO2/km. This measures are very tough to follow and Suzuki has decided that discontinuing the car is a better option.

Commercial vehicles in Europe do not have to comply will the above-mentioned norms as of now. As a result, Suzuki may re-launch the car next year as a commercial vehicle. The manufacturer will have to ditch the rear seats and slightly tweak the car’s cabin. The new car will receive the same engine as before.

Suzuki Jimny in Europe draws power from the faithful K15B 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which comes paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.   The engine produces around 108Ps of maximum power along with 138Nm of peak torque. The current Suzuki Jimny in Europe produces around 154g CO2/km with a 5-speed manual and 170g CO2/km with the automatic gearbox.

Launch in India?

Maruti Suzuki representative was quoted as saying that the car was not ideal for sales in the Indian market. The 3-door Jimny was directly denied of launch in India, while the launch of 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny was not commented about. The manufacturer may or may not launch the car here too because of the strict emission norms, especially after the advent of BS6. Consider the car to be a good 2 seater off-roader. The car is all-wheel drive and will never disappoint you for the primary thing it was made- pure fun and off-roading.
