iMT in short

The only basic thing you need to remember is that iMT is but a MANUAL TRANSMISSION. There are gears which you can manually shift in the car. But there are only two pedals available for use: Accelerator and Brake. iMT sits between a traditional manual transmission and AMT transmission. In short, the Hyundai Venue Turbo iMT will have only 2 pedals.

What this iMT is not?

Hyundai and Kia’s iMT should not be mixed with the iMT available with Toyota cars. Both are completely different technologies compared to each other. iMT is also not like proper automatic transmissions like CVT or DSG

iMT can be very easily explained in terms of gaming. If you have ever played a racing game, you have the option to shift gears manually but it is always not necessary for you to engage the clutch. You just upshift and downshift according to your personal preference. 

Is there any clutch available?

There is no clutch system present in iMT. iMT uses a clutch-by-wire system which deletes the need of clutch pedal. If the clutch was present, it would be an AMT. This new transmission is only developed to provide rest to your left, clutch foot.  You will have to take care of shifting always. Gear shift will never happen automatically in iMT present in Hyundai Venue and Kia.

Price difference due to iMT

As mentioned above, iMT falls between a traditional manual transmission and AMT transmission. As a result its price too will fall between both these transmission options. AMT may cost Rs.30, 000-60,000 to fit while iMT can be made available for much less.  It may cost Rs.15, 000-20,000 more than a manual transmission. We expect that the Hyundai Venue sees a dip in price owing to this new technology. 

Why iMT

If you need performance and driving pleasure along with added comfort of not applying gears, iMT is for you. This technology is still new in India and will take some time for getting used to.  Enthusiast drivers who absolutely need a manual transmission to shift gears but are too lazy to work with the clutch pedal can opt for this transmission.
