The Covid-19 pandemic has turned our lives upside down. Social distancing and positivity is the only way forward. Though ill-effects of the pandemic are becoming unbearable. All people-gathering events have been cancelled throughout the world. Another sad news was just announced for automobile enthusiasts around the world. The world-famous Geneva Motor show has been cancelled for 2021. The organizers too are unable to do anything.

How Many More?

The Covid-19 situation had proved to be a gladiator for the popular or already struggling motor shows throughout the globe. The 2020 Geneva Motor show in Switzerland was cancelled in February 2020, days before the commencement of the show. Paris and Detroit motor shows also had been cancelled. The Beijing Motor show was delayed to September from April. The EICMA bike motor show was also cancelled and covered by us here.

Why is the motor show cancelled for next year?

The 2021 Geneva motor show was still very far away but the financial crisis due to the 2020 Geneva Motor show made the organizers take this drastic step. The committee and council of the foundation said,

“The automotive sector is currently going through a difficult phase, and exhibitors need time to recover from the effects of the pandemic.”

The organizers also went ahead to say that the majority of the event’s exhibitors who took part in a survey voted not to participate in the next year’s events. Take a glimpse at the last Geneva MotorShow!

What is the future ahead?

Automobile manufacturers, in the absence of the motor shows, launched their vehicles online and got the same coverage and attention. As a result, companies realized that they were spending money where it could have been saved. Online launches however good and safe can never replace the real deal. In future we expect launches to take place online with motor shows going extinct.
