EVs, the hot topic of today’s age in the automobile sector are a rapidly growing segment. After the government launched the stricter BS6 emission norms, it is clear that pollution-free EVs are the only alternative ahead. Mahindra India, according to our sources is planning to launch at least three electric vehicles in India during the current fiscal year. What are the upcoming three new cars?

E KUV 100

The most anticipated car is the Mahindra eKUV100 among the three new cars rumoured to be launched, . If launched, it could become the cheapest EV sold in the Indian market. The car was already showcased in its production avatar at the Auto Expo 2020. The company is also said to launch Treo Zor and Atom in the current year. There was a high demand of Tero Yaari and Treo eAuto. This has forced the company to fast track the launch of Treo Zor and Treo Atom.

Mahindra will also continue to launch and sell ICE-powered cars as before. The company plans to give importance to both sectors simultaneously.  The current India-China issue has led to a boycott of Chinese products and losses in the automobile sector, Mahindra believes that the delay is temporary and are working towards alternatives.

According to our sources, Mr Pawan Goenka who is MD and CEO of Mahindra and Mahindra (ICE) was quoted as saying that scale for EVs was very important. He further said that they would remain back if they try to do everything on their own. He added that they needed strategic investments for larger volumes and reduced costs.

Mr Mahesh Babu, MD and CEO of Mahindra Electric was heard saying that he was happy that Mahinda Electric was EBITDA positive in Q4. He informed that they would set up a new Global R&D centre for Mahindra Electric. He also informed that other investors are invited but Mahindra and Mahindra will always remain the majority stakeholder.
