With Hyundai Creta and Venue eating up the market share of other car manufactures, every other manufacturer wants to find a way to fight back and reclaim. With SUVs and compact-SUVs selling like hot cakes in the Indian markets, everyone wants a piece of the pie. Honda too has been seeing the success of Hyundai from the side-stands from a very long time and has finally decided to enter the market against the competition.

But SUVs which are sold the most in the Indian market, are not provided in much variety by Honda. Honda currently sells just two models- WR-V and CR-V. Honda also sold BR-V but discontinued the car due to low sales and BS6 emission norms. The Covid-19 pandemic further delayed the launch of the new Honda SUV named as HR-V.

The Honda HR-V will be specifically made to compete against Hyundai Venue the current market leaders. The HR-V will be based on the WR-V’s platform and will measure around 4.4metres. Both 5/7 seat options may be made available to its customers.

What about the sub-Compact SUV?

Honda will make this car specifically to compete against Hyundai Venue and Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the current market leaders. The new sub-compact SUV may be based on the new Amaze’s GSP platform. The car similar to its competitors will be a sub-4 meter in size. Honda may have to price the SUV aggressively to capture market share against its tough competitors.

Honda, also recently patented the ZR-V nameplate, which will be Honda’s third SUV. This mid-size SUV will be made to rival against Hyundai Creta in the Indian market. All in all, Honda wants to improve its SUV presence in India and these new products may be launched by the end of 2020 or 2021 sequentially.
