MG has been selling its cars quite aggressively in the Indian market for quite some time now. Both MG Hector and MG ZS EV have been received quite well by the Indian customers. MG has realized its future scope in India faster and has begun producing 3-row MG Hector also known as MG Hector Plus. The car was first showcased globally in the Indian market at the Auto Expo 2020.
Will it affect MG Hector?
The MG Hector Plus is essentially a different version of Hector with three rows of seating. It gets new headlamps and taillamps to differ from its sibling but shares the platform, engine and many other body panels with the MG Hector. When asked if the MG Hectors potential customers might ditch the car for this new upcoming model, Mr Rajeev Chaba said that he did not want his customers compromising on space and the 7-seater was made for the family man while the Hector is a different segment altogether.
MG Motor officially announced that it has started the production of this car after lockdown relaxations in at its Halol manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The model will go on sale in July in the Indian market. Both 6/7 seater version is available for the new Plus model.
MG Hector Plus Competition
The MG Hector Plus will be priced similar to the MG Hector and will rival the Mahindra XUV500 and upcoming Tata Gravitas. Though Innova Crysta is much more premium priced, MG says that the 7-seater will be a low-cost effective alternative. A seven-seat version of the Hyundai Creta is also expected to enter the segment at the end of 2021.
MG Hector Plus Features
The obviously biggest feature will be the addition of third row and optional captain seats for the second row. A 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, chit-chat feature and MG’s in-car connectivity suite will make an appearance in the new car. Minor cosmetic tweaks can be expected to differentiate Hector Plus from MG Hector.
Expect the same engine to be offered on the Hector Plus as the MG Hector. The MG Hector comes with
- 2.0litre diesel engine producing 170hp and 350Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual.
- 1.5litre Turbo petrol engine producing 143hp and 250Nm of torque with 6-speed manual/speed-auto
- 1.5litre petrol engine with 48V hybrid-mild system along with 6-speed manual transmission.
