It has been 15 years since the Maruti Swift has been in the Indian market. Over this time the car has gained over 2.2 million units of sales. The car is currently in 3rd generation and here is how Swift has managed to get this success!

Maruti’s Say

Swift 15 years

Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said,“Brand Swift was the first model that challenged many notions around hatchbacks. More than a car, it was a refreshing new thought process. It was designed to be bold and aggressive, and at the same time be reliable and economical. It had features offered in a large car, contemporary, yet functional appealing to a younger audience. With a European touch and feel, the hatchback also embodies the sturdiness to handle Indian road conditions. It questioned the inevitability of compromise. In many ways, it was the “coming of age” of the Indian customers.”

Down the Memory Lane

The Swift was introduced in 2005. The car is now 3 generations old and much has been changed. It has attracted a lot of young costumes because of its styling and pricing. The Maruti Swift got its first ICOTY in the year 2006. This proved that the car was worthy of the Indian market right from its introduction in India.

The Maruti Swift was also accompanied by the sub-four meter sedan in the year 2017. If we look at it in a way every generation of the Maruti swift has received a car of the year. It got the second ICOTY in 2012 and the next in 2019. You can know more about Swift’s journey in India here.

Other achievements also include global recognition by being a prize winner for the GOOD DESIGN AWARD in 2017. This was awarded by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. To add to this the next year it also was one of the 3 finalists for the World Urban Car of the Year 2018.

Current Generation Swift

The Current generation of the Maruti Swift is based on the new 5th gen HEARTECT platform. The car gets 8 variants. It is powered by a 1.2-litre K-series four-cylinder engine. This engine develops a power of 82 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. The car also gets an AMT gearbox and a 5-speed manual option on certain variants.

The 3rd Generation of the Swift claims to be a top seller in its space and also has a 30% market share. We are also looking forward to Maruti to make the swift more exciting by offering the internationally sold Sport variant. But there is no hint of that from the company.
