One of the largest global automaker Mitsubishi was never a success in India. Sometimes brand name does not compensate for other issues. Mitsubishi is one of the largest automobile sellers in the global market but was never quite the same in India. The company used to sell only two cars in India. The Mitsubishi Outlander and the Mitshubishi Pajero Sport Plus. Sales figures for these cars had dropped very significantly and they had to be discontinued. Mitsubishi India has finally decided to change everything, by getting into a partnership with a Jamshedpur-Jharkhand based company.

Mitsubishi India History

Mitsubishi India had already started a partnership with Hindustan Motors( India’s largest past auto manufacturer) in 1998. Despite being in the country for so long, it never received comparable attention. Though the same company is known to produce high-quality cars with a performance at the core both off-road and on-road, it never picked up the boom here. The manufacturer introduced legendary cars like Lancer EVO, Pajero and Outlander which were a success in the global markets but could not perform in the Indian Market and were eventually discontinued.

Present Scenario

According to sources, Mitsubishi India is all set to enter in a new partnership with an India-based company soon. The new investor is a well-known brand and supplies parts to other car manufacturers in India. The process is rumoured to be finished by the end of June 2020.

This will be considered the second inning of Mitsubishi India and will have to stand up strong.

Our Benefit

The partnership will surely be beneficial for us. As a result of this partnership, new cars will very likely be launched in India soon.  The general trend which Mitsubishi follows in other markets will make an appearance here too. The company will first bring cars as a complete CBU unit but then shift to assembly lines after initial sales and feedback.

The assembly line will be set up in Jaipur thus generating employment in the country. The production is expected to start by the start of 2022. This is quite a bit of time but if the partnership is successful then it will be announced by Mitsubishi India by September.

Mitsubishi India Products

Mitsubishi has been seeing the success of Hyundai Creta and Toyota Fortuner from the side stands from a very long time. Finally, everything may change with the company deciding to enter the segment with its own products. Price is a major deciding factor in India, and Mitsubishi now knows it well. Reports suggest that the rivals launched by Mitsubishi will be priced much lower than the competition by localization. Eclipse and Eclipse Cross may arrive in India too after this merger.  The company will be targeting young customers who have a bias towards performance and build quality. Given the company’s history in the performance segment, the new cars will surely give the leaders of the segment a run for their own money.
