Skoda Auto India had implemented an INDIA 2.

0 strategy with Volkswagen since the beginning of this year in India. This strategy promised many new cars being launched by both the companies, some specifically made for the Indian market. As a result, Skoda Vision IN was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo alongside the Volswagen’s Taigun Concept. Both of these are direct competitors to the Hyundai Venue and Kia Selotos.

Launch Date

The company had decided to launch this Skoda Vision IN in the Indian market by the end of this year however the current pandemic has forced the company to delay the launch of this vehicle.

Expect to see the car launched in the first quarter of 2021. It was meant to be launched by Skoda following the Superb facelift and Karoq SUV. But Zac Hollin’s recent tweet about difficult times due to the pandemic has given a hint of delay.

New Engines

The Skoda Vision IN will feature two turbo petrol engine options when launched in India. A 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine. Expect the bigger engine to be provided only in the top variants of the car. Currently, the 1.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine currently powers the Skoda Rapid sedan producing a maximum power of 108bhp@5500rpm and a peak torque of 175Nm@1750rpm with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The higher-spec engine, on the other hand, the 1.5-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine produces max power of 150bhp@5500rpm and a peak torque of 250Nm@3000rpm with an Automatic transmission and an overall mileage of 14.49km/l on the Skoda Karoq.

Production Name

Skoda has currently Karoq and Kamiq launched in the Indian market. The rumours suggest that the production variant of the car will likely be named Kosmiq when launched in the Indian Market. It will be built on the brand’s MQB A0 IN platform, specially made for India to offer more cabin space. Karoq, T-roc all utilize the same platform.

Skoda Vision IN Price

Expect the price of the Skoda Vision IN to range between Rs.10 lakh to Rs.17 lakh. The car will be specifically made to rival the already popular Hyundai Creta and  Kia Seltos. And if Skoda wants to earn a market share in this competitive segment, they need to price the car as aggressively as possible.  The platform would allow the manufacturer heavy localization in terms of the manufacturing process and cost-effectiveness.

Skoda Vision IN Design

The concept car looks muscular and bold and pretty much like a stereotype SUV. The black cladding provides a rugged look to the car and increases the overall aesthetics of the exteriors. The blacked-out wheels look perfect and the big grille and bumper at the front will surely grab your attention.

The interiors of the Skoda Vision IN are futuristic yet simple in design. You will get a feel of two-tone colour and it all depends on your taste. Expect a large touchscreen infotainment system to dominate the dashboard. You won’t find a lot of buttons and knobs as in the other cars in the market.

Conclusion

Though the launch date has surely been delayed, the product is bound to come to India. If you are looking for a mid-size SUV and can wait till 2021, do keep an eye out for the Skoda Vision IN.
