The Tata Harrier has been one of the flagship products from Tata. It is their first product to be built on the new Omega platform. The design of the car is the most striking element of it.

The car is excellent in every aspect but we look at how it pans out in the real world. For this, we have to look at its sales and also how it compares to its competition in this aspect. We look at the sales of last year since this year has been different for all manufacturers due to the pandemic.

Harrier sales

The SUV has been an overall successful product for the company since it was launched in January of 2019. It has gotten a total sales of 15,276 units for last year. But what is most surprising is a month on month sales for the end of the year.

In November there were only 762 units sold. This was a lowly number for the sales and the company decided to introduce certain discounts for the car worth more than 1.5 lakhs. This really worked in favour of the product as for the month of December it sold 1507 units. This is almost double the units sold as compared to November.

This increase in sales shows the dominance of the product and also how the Harrier has been a loved product for the people. The only disadvantage the Harrier faced was that with the introduction of new competitors the Harrier lost some of its sales because they were priced much lower than it.

But the Harrier now also comes with a host of additional features such as a sunroof, a more powerful engine as well as an automatic gearbox. All of these will definitely get the Harrier to compete with the likes of the MG Hector.

Sales of competitors

The most direct competitor for the Harrier is the MG Hector. The Hector even after being launched six months after the Harrier has sold more units by getting sales of 15,930 units last year.

It has achieved this by getting many segment-first features and also being priced significantly lesser than the Harrier. But with the Hector, you do not get any kind of discounts on the product as it is a lot in demand.

Therefore there was no growth in the sales of the Hector between November and December as the Hector did not give any year-end discount. The Jeep Compass, on the other hand, has not been getting these kinds of sales number and averages about 700 units every month. These numbers did not change even after the Compass was offered with discounts.

The Harrier has also successfully beaten the XUV500 in terms of its sales. Therefore with the new features, updated engine and automatic transmission, the Harrier is expected to give fierce competition to the Hector.
