Honda Activa i BS6 – Launch after lockdown?

Honda has 3 scooters in its lineup now. After the BS6 switch, the company has cut down on a lot of scooters. And one of them is the Honda Activa i. Of all those discontinued scooters the Honda Activa i was the only one from the Activa series.

So will that scooter be back as New Honda Activa i?

What will be New on Honda Activa i?

Looking at the changes on the Honda Dio BS6, we expect the Honda Activa i to get new decals and LED headlamps for sure. The instrument will have a new design but might stay analogue to cut on costs. The Activa 6G still uses an analogue instrument cluster. It will get Honda’s 5 function key tumbler which makes it easy to open the under-seat boot and fuel lit from the ignition key tumbler. Inside the under-seat boot, there might be a provision for USB charging and a light. The Activa i weight for the current generation is at 103 kg. This might see a slight increase due to the new Fi engine.

Honda Activa 6G Engine

As mentioned earlier the new Honda Activa i will be using the same engine as on the Honda Dio 2020 and Activa 6G. This new engine is made BS6 compliant by giving it a fuel injection system. This has regulated a lot of variables for the emission norms. The power also has been capped at 7.68 BHP which peaks at 8000 rpm. The peak torque for the engine is 8.79 Nm at 5250 rpm. This engine makes use of Honda ESP technology which reduces friction. It also has an offsetting cylinder and optimising piston to gain a 10% increase in the fuel economy on the Activa 6G. With the lighter chassis of the Activa i we can get a much better economy as well as acceleration.  Also, the new silent start system will make the ignition very silent.

Why has it not launched yet?

To manufacture the new Activa i, Honda won’t have to go out of the way. Unless they are planning to launch a completely new design they won’t face any problem of homologation of new parts.

The BS6 engine that does duty on the Activa 6G will be reused here. We feel that Honda has not launched the scooter because they are stuck up because of the coronavirus crisis. As the manufacturing plants are opening up we could start seeing signs of the launch of this scooter.

As for the price of the new Honda Activa i there is no official number from the company. If we look at the previous pricing which is Rs 46,744. Keeping the price hike in mind we can see an increase of Rs 15000 over the last know price.
