Honda is all set to launch the 5th generation of the Honda City in India. But according to the recent news, 5th Gen Honda City India will still take some time to come to the market. Along with this Honda has taken a surprising decision of retaining the current generation of the Honda City alongside the new generation when it will be launched. Know more about why Honda has taken this decision and also know more about the difference that will be there between these two cars.

Why Retain the Honda City Old Model?

Retaining the older generation of the Honda City is a feedback response from the past generation changes. Honda says that with every generation change of the Honda City, people have shown disappointment of discontinuation of the older one. So this time they have decided to work on this and keep the older generation of the Honda City along with the new model.

Also with the setback because of the Coronavirus and BS6 norms in India it is a very safe move to play. Honda does not have to invest much in keeping the current-gen city running and they anyway had to bring the 5th gen Honda City in India. This will also let them gain good sales on the old model until the new model gains popularity. It also provides customers with more options to choose from.

What will be the differences?

The difference between these cars will be in terms of design and powertrains. Features won’t be much different So will Honda cut down on features on the older model and focus on fleet sales? The answer is no. For now, Honda will not cut down on features on the old model. They will keep it as a premium sedan in the market. The car will continue to focus on private buyers only. The powertrains will be one major reason why people will opt for the new generation of the Honda City India.

Honda City India Engines

Honda City specifications on the older generation will feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine. This will be a BS6 compliant engine which will also do its duty on the newer generation. The older generation car will be offered with only a petrol engine. So if you are a petrol buyer and want a premium sedan from Honda then the older generation Honda City will do the job for you. So now the USP of the new generation will be the diesel engine. It is expected to be a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Honda City diesel is expected to constitute 20-25% of the car’s sales.

Honda has confirmed now that the Honda City India will not be focused on fleet sales. This move by Honda is to keep in check the dropping sales of the sedan segment due to the increasing popularity of the SUVs. By providing more pricing and feature options on the car they are expecting to capture a larger market. As of now, there is no confirmation on the Honda City price list or other details for the new-gen. The current generation car will be available in all the existing Honda City colours and 4 variants. The topmost variant is expected to get first in class Alexa integration too. This is the first time Honda is doing something very unconventional and the results are something to look forward to. Will this start a new trend in the market?
