Was the Honda Activa 5G better than 6G?

Many times, two-wheeler manufacturers fail to understand customer needs and demands which led to not much useful upgrade. However, there are some vehicles that had got the right amount of upgrade. Is the Honda 6G one that got the correct upgrade or is it a miss? Well, let’s find it out.

Dimensions

Most of the bikes and scooters do not alter the dimensions with the upgrade. However, the Honda Activa 6G has gone significant changes in terms of dimensions. The Honda Activa 6G measures 1,833 mm in length and 697 mm in width. When compared to Activa 5G, it has an increased length of 71 mm and decreased width of 13 mm. Due to the decreased width, it is more comfortable than the Activa 5G. On the other hand, due to the increased length of Activa 6G, it has a bigger footboard panel.

Another important aspect of the dimension is its ground clearance. The ground clearance of the Activa 6G is at 171 mm. While the Activa 5G had 153 mm of ground clearance. The increased ground clearance will surely help the scooter to tackle potholes and over heightened speed breakers more easily. These dimension changes are not noticeable at first glance, however, it is surely felt when you ride on it.

Practical Features

Honda Activa is always known for its practicality and reliability. Now to make it even more practical scooter, Honda has added many things on Activa 6G which were missing on the Activa 5G.

The Activa 6G comes with an external fuel-lid which can be opened by the multifunctional key switch at the front. So you can maintain the under-seat storage privacy and is also less hectic while filling the fuel. The multifunctional switch also opens the seat which is also an advantage of a multifunctional key switch. Another major upgrade on the Activa 6G was its front suspension. The Activa 6G gets telescopic suspension at the front when compared to spring-loaded hydraulic type suspension of the Activa 5G. The telescopic suspension has a better ride than the hydraulic type spring suspension.

Safety Features

Honda has also concentrated on the safety features as well. The Honda Activa 6G comes with a side stand indicator and inhibitor.

This safety feature ensures that the engine does not start while the side stand is active. The Activa 6G is equipped with engine start-stop switch which was a big miss on Activa 5G.

Engine

The biggest upgrade of the Activa 6G over the Activa 5G was the engine. The Activa 6G comes with a BS6 compliant 110 cc engine with fuel injection. It produces about 7.6 bhp max power and 8.79 Nm of peak torque. Whereas, the Activa 5G produced about 8 bhp max power and 9 Nm of peak torque. However, due to the drop in power and fuel-injection, the Activa 6G has 10 % more claimed fuel efficiency compared to Activa 5G.  The Activa 6G also comes with Honda’s s silent start system.

Price

The Honda Activa 6G is about Rs 8,000 expensive than the Honda Activa 5G. It now starts at Rs 65,826 (ex-showroom). However, the additional features and changes do justify the price hike.

Its major competitor is TVS Jupiter. So should by now you might have found your answer if you should buy an Activa 5G over the Activa 6G. The price difference between both these scooters will be drastic. So, at last, it depends on what you are looking in a scooter if you are looking for a budget scooter with very basic feature then the Activa 5G makes for a better choice. The Active 6G is for the people who already have a scooter and want that extra comfort in a scooter.
