Yamaha has been working on the Cygnus-X 125, it has been spotted while testing various times. Even a video of test mule has been also circulated across the internet. However, it would be too early to say anything about the Indian bound Yamaha Cygnus X-125 as the spied mules are specifically for the South East Asian markets. Nevertheless, let’s take an overview of Yamaha Cygnus-X 125.

Design

The spy shots of the test mules have given us multiple hints about the design. It has split headlamp unit which we are already familiar with, as it was also the case with Cygnus Alpha. We can expect these headlamps to be the LED units. The turn indicators are positioned on the edge of the apron similar to the Ray ZR. The rear portion has also similar taillamp and indicator positioning as of the Cygnus Alpha, and why shouldn’t it be.

The pillion grab handles are of a split type which makes it look like a sporty scooter.

Yamaha Cygnus-X 125

To make it even sportier, the Yamaha Cygnus-X 125 will be getting long and big exhaust muffler. It is expected to borrow multiple parts from Yamaha NMax such as mirrors, wheels, engine, etc.

Engine

Yamaha Cygnus-X 125

The engine as said earlier could be from the Yamaha NMax. The NMax comes with 125 cc single-cylinder, water-cooled unit. It produces about 11.8 bhp max power and 12 Nm of peak torque.

It will be quite a big jump when compared to the current model which just produces about 9.7 bhp and 9.9 Nm of peak torque.

Specifications

The specific details of the cycle parts are still quite difficult to uncover. However, we can expect the braking to be done by the disc brakes for both wheels.

The suspension duty will be done with the help of conventional telescopic suspension at the front and mono-shock suspension at the rear.

Referring to the video, we can clearly see that it will have a wide fully digital instrument cluster. It is more likely to be a negative display unit rather than the colour TFT. We can also see the front pocket which is also quite big.

What about India launch and Price

At the moment it is still very much on the surface and also the engine is also quite powerful for the Indian market. So most probably, if Yamaha thinks it for India then it will be getting less powerful 125 cc engine which is currently available on Yamaha Ray ZR and Fascino 125. With a less powerful engine, and also altered parts it can be priced attractively at the range starting from Rs 70,000 (ex-showroom). If launched in India, it will compete against Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access 125 and TVS Ntorq.
