The compact sedan segment is one of the most popular segments in the country. This segment is mainly known to be an upgrade over the hatchback segments. These cars provide added practicality and comfort. The Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Aura are both cars that are very popular and also available with diesel engines. We put these two cars together and find out which is better.

Engine and transmission

Hyundai Aura -Amaze vs Aura

The Hyundai Aura comes with three engines. These are a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 83 hp and 114 Nm. It also gets a diesel which is a 1.2-litre mill that produces 75 hp and 190 Nm. Lastly, the petrol turbo is a 1.0-litre unit that puts out 100 bhp and 172 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the Amaze gets a 1.2-litre petrol producing 89bhp and 110 nm of torque. The diesel engine is a 1.5 litre unit producing 99 bhp and 200 nm of torque. While the Amaze gets the option of a CVT gearbox, the Aura gets an AMT gearbox. Therefore the gearbox of the Amaze is superior. The Amaze additionally gets paddle shifters. While the diesel engine is more powerful in the Amaze, the turbo petrol is much better than the 1.2 petrol of the Amaze.

Features and specifications

Both cars have the same length, but the wheelbase of the Amaze is longer. This provides more space in the cabin of the car. The interior quality of both cars is equally good. They both get many common features such as ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, dual frontal airbags as standard. The Amaze gets a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and navigation. The Hyundai Aura gets an eight inch-touchscreen. The Aura gets a rear defogger, fog lamps, rear AC vents and adjustable headrest which is not seen on the Amaze. Meanwhile, the Amaze gets electrically folding mirrors that are not seen on the Aura. Both cars get 15-inch wheels. The Honda Amaze gets a boot space of 420 litres while the Aura gets a slightly lesser 402 litres of boot space.

Pricing

The Honda Amaze costs between Rs 6.18 – 9.95 lakhs (ex-showroom). This is slightly higher than the Aura which costs between Rs 5.79 – 10.96 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Amaze in its diesel avatar gives 24.7 km/l. The petrol Amaze gives 18.6 km/l. The Aura petrol gets 20.5 km/l and its diesel variant gets 25.4 km/l. The Aura is cheaper when compared to the Amaze. It also gets certain additional feature cars when compared to the Amaze. But the Amaze is a safer car and is also more comfortable to seat five people for long journeys. Therefore the choice between both cars will depend on your priority. Both cars also get stiff competition from the Swift Dzire.
