Sitting taller & with a longer wheelbase hidden under the shorter overall length, the all-new 2016 BMW X1 now looks more like a proper SUV than before. Buyers looking for a modern day SUV want the advantages and practicality of a crossover/estate, but they want their wheels to look like a proper SUV out on the road.

BMW’s all-new X1 in 2016 guise does that and while at it, it should also improve interior room for the occupants travelling at the back. So much so, that the new X1 which offers increased head, shoulder and leg room should make long distance travel a better option than in, say, the 3-Series. The large glasshouse area and the taller roof-line making sure that comfort is improved over the outgoing model.

On the inside, the new car lives up to the premium badge it wears on its nose and on the tailgate. Also, driving grip may not offer the same feel as the older model, thanks to the new, front-wheel driven UKL1 underpinnings. Only the discerning few among the buyers are expected to notice this in the real world, as a significant chunk of owners rarely get their ‘wheels muddy’ in the true sense of the term.

And if spy-shots doing the rounds are to be believed, then BMW is out there testing a seven seat variant of the 2016 X1. This version, when launched, will further increase the value of this capable SUV and make it extremely attractive as it makes its way to Indian shores.
