Customers are really wanting something extra over the regular bike or scooter. Nevertheless, we are going to talk about the Honda Activa 125 and how did it boost the 125 cc market.

125 cc Shift

Let’s consider we are living in 2013, at the time we don’t have much of an option in the 125 cc segment. The only option was the Suzuki Access 125.

However, in the year 2020, there are more than five scooters in the 125 cc segment that includes TVS Ntorq, Suzuki Access 125, Yamaha Fascino 125, Yamaha Ray ZR 125, Hero Maestro Edge 125 and Aprilia SR 125. We’ll neglect Aprilia SR 125 (it’s premium scooter) but still, we get many 125 cc scooter options. So how did it really happened? Let’s find it out.

We can say that Suzuki Access 125 is the scooter who really started the segment but the Honda Activa 125 was the one who really boosted the segment. We, humans, need change and need a better change after some period, so when Honda Activa 125 was launched back in 2014, it managed to gather plenty of new customers. The sales were not as par as of the Suzuki Access 125 but were nearly half of it. And the interesting thing was that even with a new arrival, Suzuki Access 125 did not lose much of its sales. Which lead other manufacturers to conclude that it’s a growing market.

Currently, the 125 cc scooter market is of more than one lakh customers per month.

Which is a nice number indeed, therefore many manufacturers are trying to get more and more share from the market. Honda Activa 125 currently acquires more than 20% of the market share of the segment. It sells over 30k units on a monthly average. Nevertheless, we’ll what’s been offered by the Honda Activa 125.

Honda Activa 125

Honda Activa 125 currently is in BS6 form and comes with a 124 cc fuel-injected engine. It produces about 8.1 bhp max power and 10.3 Nm of peak torque. It features a semi-digital instrument cluster, external fuel lid, side stand engine cut-off, idle start-stop system, LED headlamps and DRLS, multi-functional key switch, front glove box, combined braking system and under-seat storage.

The scooter sits on the 12-inch front wheel and 10-inch rear wheel, both alloys. The braking is done with help of disc brake(optional) at the front and drum brake at the rear. Suspension duty is done with the help of telescopic suspension at the front and mono-shock suspension at the rear.

The Honda Activa 125 starts at Rs 70,239 (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 77,295 (ex-showroom).
