The Tata Nexon EV is the most affordable electric SUV that money can buy. The car is another success story of electrical vehicles and how Indians are indeed buying them.

Electric SUVs come in the range of above Rs 20 lakhs such as the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona. The Nexon EV has also been the most sold last month out of these three SUVs. Now there is news that the car will get an upgrade in its range as well as performance. We find out if this is indeed necessary.

Overview

The Nexon, which was launched earlier this year was also the first longe-range electric car from the company. It has a claimed range of 312 kms compared to the Tigor EVs range of 213 kms. One of the company officials has said that the Ziptronic EV technology of the Nexon will continue to evolve and hence, improve the performance of the vehicle. Not just this, even the range will get extended with the rollout of the update.

Tata Nexon EV software update

The Nexon being an electric car does not necessarily need a bigger battery to get a higher range. A software update can do the same which is what will happen. Just with a software update, the performance of the car can be upgraded. This is another advantage of electric cars over IC cars as well. Tesla has also internationally announced that it will bring out an update that improves the car’s performance by 50 bhp.

Therefore companies worldwide induce improvements on their cars continuously through research in software.

Is it needed?

This upgrade is not needed in the Nexon as it already has enough range and performance for its price. But this will be a good thing as these updates will make other buyers also stray into electric cars as well. An upgrade in the range of the car will also make more people want to buy this car as it will become an even more attractive offer. For comparison, the MG ZS EV being much more expensive only has a slightly higher range of 350 km.

With this update, the Nexon could be at par with the ZS EV when it comes to range and performance.
