Force Gurkha has become one of the iconic off-roaders in the Indian market. The car has inspired its looks from the Mercedes G Wagon and even gets a Mercedes derived engine. It is a true off-roader and an SUV that offers more than just higher ground clearance. The car is meant to tackle the most difficult terrains there is to offer.

Now, with the BS6 updates, the car gets a new design as well. The car goes up against the Mahindra Thar and is meant to be a budget off-roader. We tell you its off-roading features below.

Air snorkel

The Force Gurkha gets an Air Snorkel to help the engine deal with the off-roading tasks. While this also adds to the design element it does help while off-roading. This ensures an ample supply of clean air to the engine ensuring better combustion and lower strain on the air cleaning system. The snorkel also gives the Gurkha a high water wading ability of up-to 550mm which is one of its most impressive features.

For the first time in this category, coil spring suspension has been offered on four wheels. The Force Gurkha gets the multi-link suspension setup that features an independent front double-wishbone and five-link, rigid-axle rear arrangement. It also gets mechanically actuated differential locks on both axles.

Transfer case

The Force Gurkha has a new hi-tech transfer case offering. You can select any of the three options, 4×2 High, 4x4High or 4x4Low.

 The differential lock is a feature of the Gurkha that helps come out of situations when one or more of the wheels are slipping on soft ground or in the air due to undulating terrain and unable to generate the required traction to move forward.

High Ground Clearance

The Gurkha has a ground clearance of 210 mm. It also gets new metal skid plates underneath. In fact, the car gets off-road cladding from all sides. It also gets a toe bar on the front as well as back. It gets chunky tyres that are 215/70 in section and are tubeless to tackle the rough terrains.

Gradient Angles

Approach angle is the maximum angle of an obstacle that a vehicle can climb whereas the departure angle is the maximum angle from which the vehicle can descend. The angle between your tyres and the middle of your vehicle’s car underside is known as the break-over angle. The Gurkha gets an approach angle of 44°. Its departure angle is 40°. The ramp Over Angle of 30° in the Gurkha enables it to climb over ditches and obstacles easily. The Gurkha can also negotiate gradients up to 40° in Low 4×4.
