Maruti WagonR Vs S-Presso – Which is for you?

Maruti has always been successful with its hatchbacks. The latest hatchback entry of Maruti is the S-Presso. Now due to the arrival of the S-Presso, it might have created a sort of confusion among the customers.

Engine

Both the hatchbacks shares the same 1.0-litre petrol engine. The engine produces around 67 bhp at 5500 rpm and about 90 Nm of peak torque at 3500 rpm. It comes mated with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox. There’s not much of a difference in the mileage. Maruti WagonR also comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine option. The 1.2-litre motor produces around 82 bhp max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. Both the model comes with a CNG option that is limited with the 1.0-litre engine and 5-speed manual gearbox.

Features

In terms of features, both the hatchback seemed to offer a similar level of equipment. Both the cars do come with a touch screen infotainment system that has a smart connectivity feature to enable navigation. Along with that, both hatchbacks come with driver airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS, seatbelt alarm as a standard piece of equipment across variants.

The Maruti S-Presso comes with uniquely positioned LED instrument cluster that shows gear position and other useful stuff.

Dimensions and space

The major difference in both vehicles is about space. Maruti WagonR gets the upper hand in terms of space. The exterior dimensions of the Maruti WagonR are 3655mm – L, 1620 – W, 1675mm – H. While the Maruti S-Presso has exterior dimensions of 3565mm – L, 1520mm – W, 1564 mm – H. The boot space for the WagonR has been offered at 341-litres while the S-Presso has been offered at 270-litre. So you will get a better interior space as well as boot space in WagonR.

However, due to larger wheelbase and dimensions, WagonR is a bit of a struggle in city traffic and turning in short spaces. Maruti S-Presso has been offered with 180 mm of ground clearance while the WagonR comes with 165 mm ground clearance. Maruti S-Presso has better driveability across bad surfaces.

Price Clash

If we consider the hatchbacks based on the pricing we see that S-Presso VXi has similar pricing of the Maruti WagonR LXi model. So the Maruti S-Presso comes with additional features when compared with the WagonR. For eg., Maruti S-Presso comes with dual-airbags for VXi model while the Maruti WagonR LXi comes with an only driver-side airbag. That’s an advantage of S-Presso over the WagonR.
