The Volkswagen Ameo has been officially discontinued by the company after the BS6 emission norms have kicked in.

Many companies have had to make tough decisions regarding their cars and engines. Many car manufacturers have stopped selling diesel engines in their cars and some have even discontinued some low selling cars altogether in the market as meeting them with the BS6 norms would be costly. The Volkswagen Ameo is one such product that has been discontinued.

Overview

The car was supposed to be cheaper than the Vento as it would be sub-four meters and therefore would come in the tax bracket of a sub four metre vehicle and could be sold at low costs. The Polo and the Vento both have been performing really well for the company and therefore the Ameo was introduced that would sit in between the two and would be a kind of a smaller Vento or an upgraded Polo.

Sales

But the car did not do well as it had stiff competition from the likes of the Swift Dzire and also people did not like it due to its high maintenance and service costs. Even the design of the car did not seem appropriate and it looked like a weirdly shortened Vento the car had only sold about units last year and therefore it did not make sense for the company to continue this product. Meanwhile, the company’s India 2.0 project can be affected due to the ongoing virus as it had plans to increase a lot of its localisation and also bring in its compact SUV the Taigun.

Volkswagen Ameo features

The car came with the usual fit and finish quality of Volkswagen that is top notch and also it had premium quality plastics in the car. it also had features like Volkswagen dual-beam headlamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, a flat-bottom steering wheel, ambient lights, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, one touch operation for all four power windows and remote opening/closing of windows
