Honda as a commuter has always been appreciated by the Indian customers. Due to Honda’s reliability and fairly priced service charge the company has been successful to attract the customers and also helped the manufacturer to grow as an independent manufacturer. As most of us are quite aware of the BS6 emission norms and have already guessed the importance of these norms. The BS6 norms are government regulated norms on vehicles so that the vehicle produces a lesser carbon footprint.

Now during this transition, not all Honda bikes were upgraded to meet these norms. Currently, only three Honda commuters are available in the company’s BS6 portfolio.

1. Honda Shine

Honda Shine had undergone the BS6 update recently and why shouldn’t it, as the bike is the most famous commuter bike in Honda’s commuter range. It is the most successful 125 cc bike in the entire country. In the BS6 transition, it did underwent multiple changes. Starting from the engine, the BS6 unit is more powerful than the BS4 model. The BS6 model produces nearly 10.7 bhp max power and 11 Nm of peak torque, that’s 0.

4 bhp and 0.7 Nm more compared to the BS4 model. Also, the new BS6 engine comes mated with the 5-speed gearbox to reduce over-revving of the motor.

The company also claimed that the new BS6 model to deliver 14 percent more fuel efficiency.

Along with the new engine, the BS6 Honda Shine 125 gets Honda’s silent start system that allows the bike to start very silently. The BS6 model also gets the start/stop switch that was missing in the BS4 model.

Pricing for the BS6 Honda Shine starts at Rs 67,857 and goes up to Rs 72,557 (both prices ex-showroom) for the disc brake model.

2. Honda Unicorn

Honda Unicorn BS6 was the latest entity in the Honda’s BS6 lineup. The Honda Unicorn has always been popular due to its simpleness and torquey engine. Now in the BS6 update, the manufacturer has done something interesting with the Unicorn.

The bike now gets completely new 162 cc engine. The engine replaces the BS4’s 150cc engine. The bike now produces around 12.9 bhp max power and 14 Nm peak torque. The torque output has now gone up by almost 1.2 Nm while the power output remains similar. However, due to the decreased overall weight and increased torque should help the bike to outperform the predecessor by a significant amount. The company also claimed that the bike will have better fuel efficiency as well.

The BS6 Honda Unicorn now costs Rs 93,593 which is Rs 13,000 more than the BS4 model. However, considering the changes that kind of justify the hike. The bike even with the significant hike is considered as the most affordable 160 cc motorcycle.

Honda SP 125

Honda SP 125 is the sport version of the standard Shine. The most noticeable change in both bikes is design or styling. The SP model has sporty fairing and graphics to make it sportier. It also gets the full-LED headlamps and a fully digital instrument cluster.

Honda SP 125

The engine and power output are similar to the BS6 Shine. The pricing of the BS6 Honda Shine SP starts at Rs 72,900 for drum variant and Rs 77,100 for the disc variant (ex-showroom) that makes it around Rs 5,000 expensive than the standard Shine 125.
