The current-gen Suzuki Katana has been captivating many Indians right from its international debut. The current version is based on the GSX-S1000F and takes the engine from the GSX-R1000. Suzuki and other motorcycle manufacturers were initially planning to showcase their motorcycles at the Tokyo and Osaka motorcycle shows. However, due to COVID-19 pandemic, the show has been cancelled.

So the motorcycle manufacturers are displaying their bikes through virtual mediums.

What are the new colours?

Now in this virtual show, Suzuki displayed the new colour schemes of the Katana. The colour schemes included – Dark Red with Red coloured rims and Matte Black with Golden rims. Both these colour scheme had Golden coloured front USD forks and handlebar. The bike in these colour schemes looks absolutely stunning, we especially liked the Matte Black one. Company is yet to confirm the production of these colours and solely depends on the audience responses.

Suzuki Katana

Previously at the Auto Expo, Katana was the show stealer at the Suzuki’s hall. It hinted that Suzuki might think of launching the Katana in India. If it does, it will be a CKD product that means the bike parts will be exported from Japan and then assembled in India. This might raise the price of the bike but not as much as a fully exported motorcycle.

If it launches in India we can expect the pricing of around Rs 10-12 lakhs (ex-showroom). Let’s take a look at the specifications of this traditional yet modern motorcycle.

Engine / Powertrain

As said earlier, the bike comes with a GSX-S1000F’s K5 engine. The engine is a 999cc liquid-cooled, inline-four unit that produces nearly 150 bhp max power and 108 Nm of peak torque. The engine is really a high revving machine as the max power and torque appear at 10,000 rpm and 9,500 rpm respectively. To handle this power, the Suzuki Katana gets equipped with slipper-clutch, three-level traction control, dual-channel ABS and stiffness adjustable suspension. The suspension at front is fully adjustable KYB 43 mm USD forks while the rear is a link type mono-shock unit that too is adjustable. The bike has been equipped with Brembo radial callipers that offer superior stopping power.

Looks / Design

The design of the bike resembles its predecessors and why shouldn’t it. It is a semi faired motorcycle with a square LED headlight unit. The tank and the fairing are quite sharp and edgy and look modern yet classic. We personally loved the design of the Suzuki Katana as we saw this bike in person when we visited the Auto Expo 2020. You can watch our walkaround video so that you can have a good idea of the design.

Rivals

The major rivals for the bike will include Kawasaki Z900 and upcoming KTM Duke 890. We hope that Suzuki really gives good news for the Indian customers soon.
