Maruti recently removed its diesel engines from the BS6 lineup. S-cross was the vehicle from the manufacturer that will also have BS6 upgrade and as expected it will also eliminate diesel engine. However, the vehicle will get a more powerful petrol engine to have that extra thrust diesel offered. The launch of the vehicle was planned to held earlier, however, due to ongoing COVID-19 crisis, it will have a launch in the next month.

Let’s have a look at what the BS6 Maruti S-cross petrol will offer and at what price tag.

Engine / Powertrain

The most noticeable change will be present in the powertrain department. The crossover will swap the current 1.3-litre turbo diesel motor with the more powerful 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Previously S-cross produced 90 bhp max power and 200 Nm of peak torque. The upcoming 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 105 bhp max power and 138 Nm of peak torque. The engine then will be mated with a 5-speed manual and optional 4-speed automatic gearbox.

2017 Maruti S-Cross facelift front

The same 1.5-litre petrol BS6 engine currently is seen in the Ciaz, Ertiga, XL6 and Brezza as well. Suzuki will be offering its mild-hybrid technology SHVS only in the automatic variant, unlike diesel which was available in all variants.

Hardware and Features

Mechanically there will be no change and it will be similar to the predecessor. It will be still offering with all-disc brakes, spring suspension and alloy wheels. The crossover is a 5-seater and four-door vehicle and offers a good amount of headroom and legroom.

The BS6 Maruti S-cross petrol is expected with the addition of a new touch screen infotainment system similar to Brezza. Other features will be retained from the predecessor such as climate control, Instrument cluster with MID display and many practical storage spaces. However to give it a fresh appeal it might have updated upholstery. The safety net will include dual-airbags, rear parking sensors and ABS with EBD as a piece of standard equipment across variants.

Exterior Design

There will be mild to no change from the exterior. Looking at the Maruti’s previous BS6 updates, it is expected with revised bumper and lighting. The vehicle got a mid-life update back in 2017, it’s now nearing to the end of product cycle. It is expected to be replaced by the Maruti’s Futuro-e-concept SUV that was showcased at the recent Auto Expo.

Price and Rival

Pricing for the BS4 model starts at Rs 8.81-11.44 lakhs (ex-showroom). The BS6 Maruti S-cross petrol is expected to have a small price hike over the BS4 model.

It is currently available in four trims currently, these trims might get carryforward.

The vehicle is sold by Nexa dealers which represents Maruti’s premium branding. Main rivals for the crossover includes Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster and Tata Nexon.
