Honda has discontinued it’s affordable MPV the BR-V. It was been suggested earlier by the reports but we had some hope previously. Now, that it has confirmed that it will not see a BS6 update and is discontinued. Along with the BR-V, Honda has also removed the diesel version of City, Civic and CR-V for now. Other Honda cars will have BS6 update. Honda Jazz and WR-V will have revised changes and are expected to arrive soon.

Honda BR-V did not see good sales due to its higher cost and tough rivals. It was packed with many outdated features that lacked modern requirements. However, recently it was been suggested that the BR-V’s platform will be now used to develop Honda’s upcoming mid-sized SUV. So we can expect a somewhat similar length of the mid-sized SUV. Let’s have a look of the specifications of the BR-V so that we can get the idea what this mid-sized SUV can possess.

Honda BR-V Engine

The Honda BR-V was offered with two engine options 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.5-litre petrol produced around 118 bhp max power and 145 Nm peak torque. While the 1.5-litre diesel produces around 98.6 bhp max power and 200 Nm of peak torque.

Considering the power it’s not quite enough to tackle the rivals. However, to match competition Honda might tweak the engine to produce more power from the same engine. Gearbox options included a 6-speed manual and optional CVT gearbox.

Features

Featurewise, Honda BR-V was pretty much behind the segment requirements. Considering the failure of BR-V, Honda should be offering more value for money products in the future.

We can expect segment trending features in the upcoming BR-V based mid-sized SUV such as sunroof, auto headlamps, climate control, etc.

We have been pointing out many negative things from the BR-V but every coin has two sides similarly BR-V too has some pros. Honda BR-V had a very nice fit and finish quality. Its interior material quality was also segmented ahead and still matches newly arrived cars. Its safety rating was also better than most of the vehicles in India and specifically, it’s rivals.

So we can expect a similar level of safety in the upcoming Honda’s mid-sized SUV.

Price and Rivals

The last noted price for the BR-V was at Rs 9.52 lakhs to Rs 13.82 lakhs (both prices ex-showroom). The MPV’s primary rivals included Maruti Ertiga, Renault Triber and Mahindra Marazzo.
