It has been seen that many customers are confused between these two vehicles as they are offered at a similar cost. Continue reading the blog and we’ ll see which car offers better value.

Exterior Design and Dimension

We’ll start from the old hatchback Alto K10. The design language of the vehicle is like most of the hatchbacks. It has pretty basic design language, but that isn’t bad at all. The width of the Alto measures around 1,515 mm, length around 3,545 mm and height around 1,475 mm.

Newly arrived Maruti S-Presso pretty much looks like an SUV, but considering the dimensions, it’s still hatchback. However, the SUV body makes the car to appear bigger than it is. The dimensions of the S-Presso are as following- width 1,520, length 3,565, height 1,564. Comparing the dimensions of both cars, Maruti S-Press is a clear winner in terms of dimensions. therefore it transitions into better space at the interior.

Engine / Powertrain

Both the hatchbacks share the same powertrain. The hatchbacks come with a 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces around 67 bhp and 90 Nm of peak torque. The S-Presso has lower fuel efficiency compared with Alto K10 due to bigger frontal portion and addition body weight. Both these vehicles have been offered with a 5-speed manual and optional 5-speed automatic transmission. Both the hatchbacks have company fitted CNG option as well.

Featurewise S-Presso will definitely have an upper hand as the vehicle is new in the market. Maruti S-Presso comes with a digital instrument cluster, steering mounted buttons and customizable Smartplay studio infotainment. While the Maruti Alto K10 comes with analogue instrument cluster and basic button controlled infotainment system. Safety-wise both of them are equipped with dual-airbags, rear parking sensor seatbelt indicator. Other common features include power steering, all power windows, Maruti S-Presso has been offered with lots of accessories so that customer can enhance his vehicle. The interior space and the boot space in S-Presso are also significantly more than Alto K10.

Pricing of the Alto K10 starts at Rs 3.6 lakhs and goes up to Rs 4.39 lakhs (both prices ex-showroom). While the Maruti S-Presso starts at Rs 3.7 lakhs and goes up to Rs 4.99 lakhs (both prices ex-showroom, New Delhi). Considering the pricing there’s not much of a difference and S-Presso seems the winner. The BS6 variant of the Maruti Alto K10 is yet to be launched, we can hope the BS6 model to be as value for money as of the S-Presso then.

Other options you can look for in the price range are Renault Kwid, Hyundai Santro and also the upcoming Tata HBX.
