Maruti recently gave few changes for their compact sedan Dzire. It now comes with a more powerful engine. Following the compact sedan, Maruti’s popular hatchback Swift is also expected with a similar engine. The changes in the updated Swift will possess some of the fresh tweaks as well. Let’s see what these changes can be seen on the Maruti Swift 2020.

Engine / Powertrain

The recently launched Dzire has eliminated the diesel engine options and now is available with the 1.2-litre petrol only. We expect the same petrol engine to be seen in the updated Swift as well. The engine produces around 90 bhp max power and 113 Nm peak torque. The engine is then mated with the 5-speed manual and optional 5-speed automatic gearbox. Claimed fuel efficiency is about 23.26 km/l for manual and 24.12 km/l for automatic, which is fair enough and can expect 20 km/l average economy in real-world conditions. However, we are expecting a bit more fuel efficiency in Swift due to low weight compared to Dzire.

Features

As the new Dzire gets a new 7-inch Smartplay Studio touch infotainment, we can hope the same for Swift as well. Other features that might not undergo change is the seats and interior theme. It will retain the speedometer console which has MID display in the middle. It will have dual-airbags, ABS with EBD, pre-tensioner force limiter seat belts and ISOFIX. The new Maruti Dzire has now equipped with bigger front and rear brakes. So, we can expect the same update in 2020 Swift as well. It seems Maruti has been giving lots of attention in the safety department as the hatchback scored poor in the previous GNCAP test. The updated model is expected to have better safety score than the previous.

Exterior Design / Looks

The updated Maruti Swift 2020 will have the same body design as of the current model. However, we are hoping the new model to come with a few design tweaks. As the new Dzire had new front and rear bumper. We are hoping similar changes for Swift as well. It might also get a dual-tone colour option at least for the top model. The design of the hatchback is pretty much ahead of time and still manages to tackle the new entities from rival manufacturers. It has LED DRLs and headlamps, LED combined taillamps, key-sync auto foldable ORVMs and diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Price and Rivals

The pricing of the Maruti Swift 2020 is expected to have a small price hike over the current pricing. For reference, the current pricing of Swift starts at Rs 5.19 lakhs (ex-showroom). The hatchback competes against Ford Figo and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. Launch of the hatchback is expected somewhere in August-September 2020. Maruti has showcased the Swift hybrid that has a claimed mileage of 32 km/l and also possesses many changes. This model is expected to replace the diesel model.
