Suzuki recently unveiled the popular mid-engined bike the 2020 SV650. The new model appears to similar to predecessor at first glance. However, to give it a fresh appeal, the company has brought few changes on the bike.

Mechanically and featurewise, the bike remains identical to the predecessor. It continues to have retro-styled look that includes round headlamps, exposed exhaust pipe and so. Moreover, it also has some of the modern-looking elements such as exposed coloured frame, twin-LED taillight, single-piece elevated seat and also a fully digital instrument cluster. The instrument cluster is pretty upmarket and displays all the much-required information such as speedometer, tachometer, gear position indicator.

Powertrain

The bike is powered by a 645 cc liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engine. The engine is a 90-degree twin-cylinder unit that has 4-values per cylinder and a fuel injection system as an air-fuel mixer. The power output is around 75 bhp and  64 Nm peak torque. The engine is then mated with a 6-speed gearbox. The claimed fuel-efficiency is around 26.6 km/l, that is quite good enough.

2020 Suzuki SV650

Suzuki V-Strom 650XT shares same 645 cc engine but on a lower state of tune that produces 71 bhp and 62 Nm of peak torque. Suzuki V-Strom 650XT is currently available in India, so we can expect the SV650 to be made available in India pretty soon.

Colour option

A most evident change in the 2020 SV650 is the new colour range. Previously, the bike was offered with three colour options – Pearl Glacier with blue wheels and frame, All Grey Metallic with red wheels and frame and Glass Sparkle Black with blue wheels and frame. However, now it is offered with Mystic Silver Metallic with blue wheels and frame, Matte Black Metallic with red wheels and frame and Glass Sparkle Black with black wheels and frame.

Price

The pricing of the 2020 Suzuki SV650 remains unchanged in the Japanese market. It is picked at Rs  – JPY 684,000 (INR 4.64 lakhs). However, we expect there will be some price hike while coming to India. It will be somewhat near to the V-Strom 650XT that costs Rs 7.47 lakhs so we can expect it around 6.2-6.7 lakhs ( all prices ex-showroom).

Rivals

The list of major rivals consists of Benelli TNT600I, RE 650 Twins, Kawasaki Z650, CFMoto 650NK. As per earlier reports, Suzuki has already given several hints for the SV650. While coming in India, it will have BS6 compliant tweaks and some changes at the exhaust.

Overall mechanicals is expected to remain unchanged. The launch of the bike is hoped somewhere around September-October 2020.

If brought at an attractive price tag will surely make a big hit for Suzuki.
