Yamaha recently unveiled a new 155 cc maxi-scooter in Japan. The maxi-scooter is called as a Majesty S 155. Can we hope for this maxi-scooter in the Indian market? well, let’s find by reading the complete blog.

Design / Looks

First, let’s see what do we get from this scooter. At first glance, it looks like a premium scooter and not what we usually see in India. It has quite maxi like stance and styling. It gets very comfortable seats, detached handlebar, LED headlamps. The piano black finish at the front enhances the premiumness of the scooter. The scooter has offered with very funky colour schemes – yellow, grey with blue alloys, of course, the black as well.

Engine / Powertrain

As the name suggests the Yamaha Majesty S comes with a 155 cc motor. The engine is a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected unit that churns out around 15 bhp max power and around 14 Nm of peak torque. The same engine is currently seen on the Yamaha YZF R15, however, R15 has a higher state of tune compared with the Majesty S 155. The scooter is a CVT scooter so it will have a linear power output compared to R15. Claimed fuel efficiency is around 37.5 km/l which is decent enough.

Hardware

The scooter is equipped with a telescopic suspension at the front and a mono-shock suspension at the rear. Braking duty of the scooter is done by a 267 mm disc at the front and 245 mm disc at the rear that is then assisted by the single-channel ABS. If in case the scooter comes to India, it will be the first scooter to offer disc brakes for both the wheels. It comes with lots of storage spaces and a 12 V charging socket which is a much-needed feature in today’s times. The bike weighs just 145 kgs even with theses hardware bits and bulky design.

Yamaha Majesty S 155

India launch

In India currently, there’s only one maxi-scooter which is Suzuki Burgman Street. Its the 125 cc scooter with decent performance and comes at a very attractive price tag. However, it has been seen that maxi-scooters are not been appreciated widely in India. Suzuki Burgman Street managed to attract average 8,000 customers a month that is a decent number. However, if Yamaha has to bring the Majesty S 155 in India it has to bring it at a very attractive price point.

Price

The pricing for the Yamaha Majesty S in Japan starts at Rs 3.45 lakhs Yen that is 2.4 lakhs in Indian rupees. Still, that’s quite a lot. If it is to be manufactured in India, then we can expect to price somewhere around Rs 1.4-1.6 lakhs(ex-showroom). It will have to compete against Aprilia SXR 160 and of course Suzuki Burgman Street.
