Hyundai India is now almost ready to meet the BS-VI deadline with subsequent product updates. Some products have been completely updated to newer generation, while some received minor updates. Now the next products to undergo the upgrades are Hyundai Venue diesel and Hyudai Elite i20. While Venue got BS-VI compliant petrol engine already, it now gets diesel engine from Creta to meet norms. To ensure the differentiation between Venue and Creta, the former gets it in de-tuned version.

Hyundai BS-VI Venue Diesel

Hyundai Venue is compact SUV from the brand, which earlier came with three engine options – 1.2 liter Kappa petrol, 1.0 liter T-GDi petrol and 1.4 liter U2 CRDi oil burner. While former two were meeting the norms from the launch itself, the later was not. That engine now stands discontinued and is now replaced by the 1.5 liter unit from Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. This engine, in Venue, produces power of 99 bhp and torque of 240 Nm. The power and torque figure stands increased by about 10%, compared to that of old oil burner. The gearbox remains the same, which is 6-speed manual unit. It remains the question that why Hyundai hasn’t mated this engine with their automatic transmission, when they do on Creta.

The BS-VI diesel Venue is now priced from INR 8.09 lakhs to 11.49 lakhs.

Hyundai elite i20

The 1.4 liter oil burner was doing duty on variety of Hyundai cars, from Elite i20 and Venue to base variants of Creta and Verna. Now, the later three cars have moved on to different power plant, the Elite i20 completely omits it. The BS-VI Elite i20 now comes only powered by 1.2 liter Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine. The engine now produces power of 82 bhp and torque of 114 Nm and comes mated with 5-speed manual transmission. This is the same engine which powers Grand i10, Nios, Venue, Xcent and Aura too. With this update, Hyundai has also altered the variant line-up which now consist of only three variants – Magna+, Sportz+ and Asta (O). This update is just a stop-gap arrangement until the next generation car arrives, later this year.

The petrol only BS-VI Elite i20 now costs from 6.5 lakhs to 8.31 lakhs INR. After this update, in BS-VI compliant premium hatchback segment, only Tata Altroz continues to come with both petrol and diesel engine options.
