Skoda has officially started the booking for the new BS6-compliant Rapid. The launch for the sedan will be held next month. The booking amount is Rs 50,000 and the deliveries will commence from April 14, 2020. The new BS6 Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI model is equipped with few changes, let’s get into the details of these.

Powertrain

Most of the changes will be seen on the powertrain. The new BS6 model will only have a 1.0-litre petrol option that produces nearly 108 bhp and 175 Nm peak torque. The same engines were recently introduced in the BS6 Polo and Vento. The transmission will be also similar to the Vento that is a six-speed manual and optional six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

It might be a disappointment for some Skoda enthusiasts as the manufacturer did not offer the diesel version and DSG gearbox. To answer the concern the company officials said that the new 1.0 TSI is a state-of-art petrol engine that offers exceptional power output as well as excellent fuel economy. So we hope to be as good as or even better than the previous engines. We are really excited to take a ride of this mid-sized sedan and will soon make a detailed review for the same.

Features

The BS6 Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI will have mild cosmetic tweaks to distinguish it from the predecessor. The sedan will now feature a new touch screen infotainment system. It will have trending features like climate control, engine start-stop button, auto headlamp and wipers, etc. The safety net will include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, engine immobilizer, crash sensor, hill assist, and more. The new BS6 model is expected with the new colour options as well.

Price and Rivals

The pricing of the BS6 Skoda Rapid is expected with some drop. For reference, the current pricing for the petrol model starts at Rs 8.82 lakhs (ex-showroom). The mid-sized sedan rivals the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and also the upcoming Tata sedan.
