Tata is developing a 7-seater MPV based on the current Altroz platform. It will be sharing lots of underpinnings with the Altroz and the upcoming HBX. It is speculated that the launch will be somewhere around 2021 end or 2022 start. The family-friendly MPV is also expected with the budget-friendly and value for money proposition. Let’s see what can we expect from this Ertiga rival.

Engine

Currently, Tata has 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel motors which produces enough horsepower to tackle the Ertiga. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol is capable of producing nearly 118 bhp max power and enough 170 Nm peak torque. Whereas the 1.5-litre diesel churns out about 109 bhp max power and 260 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come with the 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

When compared with the Maruti Ertiga the power and torque on both engines are well enough on the higher side. The Maruti Ertiga is equipped with 1.5-litre petrol that makes around 130 bhp and 138 Nm peak torque. The transmission includes 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic options. So Tata MPV fairly makes better sense to buy.

Features

Tata’s Ertiga rival will be equipped with a similar level of features as of the Nexon. To just name the few such as touch-screen infotainment system, cruise control, semi-digital instrument cluster, auto headlamp and wiper, climate control, etc. The quality of the upholstery will be of a similar level as the Nexon and Altroz. The sunroof is however still in suspect as this will be a priced very attractive but if it happens then the segment will truly heat up. The MPV will get 2-airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors as the standard feature.

The exterior design of the MPV will be based on the Tata’s Impact 2.0 language. It is expected with design elements similar to the ongoing Tata Harrier and the upcoming Tata HBX. Overall the dimensions will be somewhat similar to the Tata Nexon.

Price

The price of this upcoming Ertiga rival is expected to be very competitive. We expect it to be priced somewhat similar to the Tata Nexon which is priced between Rs 6.95 – 12.7 lakhs(ex-showroom). Which is still around Rs 60,000 cheaper than the Ertiga, when compared base variants. The vehicle will be competing against Mahindra Marazzo, Renault Triber and also MG’s speculated MPV.
