The compact SUV segment is really heating day by day, by offering a large number of features by the manufacturers.

Now there will be also a new entry by the Kia Motors, which is expected by early-2021. The compact SUV is named as Sonet and was showcased as a concept at the recent Auto Expo. We were expecting the production version to be very much similar to the concept and it really seems Kia didn’t disappoint us. So let’s see what the spied version of Kia Sonet has to tell us about the compact SUV which was recently spotted on the South Korean streets.

Exterior Design

As we all are quite aware of Kia, they really produce cars that are almost 70-80 percent similar to the concept. Same will be the case in the Kia Sonet. It will have lots of bits similar to the concept. The spied image revealed it by far. If we look closer to the rear we will find similar LED taillamps like the concept. From the front, we are able to see the outline of Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille. The headlamp will have the LED DRLs outline from the upper side that will make it really aggressive from the front. If the individual really liked the design of the concept then he will surely love the production-spec as well.

The diamond-cut alloy wheels found on the test car are pretty much similar to the concept and thus looks pretty nice. The same alloy wheels might also be shared with the Hyundai Creta and Venue in the near future. However, one must note that the alloy wheels are around 16-inch and smaller than the concept model.

Engine

The Kia Sonet is based on the Hyundai Venue’s platform so we expect to have the same engines as well. The engine option will have three engines mostly- 1.0-litre turbo petrol, 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre turbo diesel. The 1.0-litre turbo which is now a trend across compact SUVs, makes around 120 bhp max power and 172 Nm peak torque. The 1.2-litre petrol makes decent 82 bhp max power and 114 Nm peak torque.

While the mile-efficient 1.5-litre turbo-diesel will be able to produce around 100 bhp. All the engines will be BS6 compliant and will be cleaner to the environment.

Interior and Features

As there is no official confirmation about the features and interior, but we hope to be pretty competitive. It will be getting a touch screen infotainment, cruise control, sunroof, automatic headlamps and wiper, climate control, etc. The upholstery will have a sporty theme, so we expect it to have full black treatment with another colour stitching on it.

Price and Competition

The pricing will be very aggressive, which has been experienced by Kia Seltos. We are expecting somewhere between 6.5-11 lakhs(ex-showroom). It will be competing against other compact SUVs such as Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Ford Ecosport, Mahindra XUV 300 and its cousin Hyundai Venue.
