Tata Motors is working aggressively towards gaining its share in Indian car market. For that, they are not only regularly updating their existing products but also planning to enter new segments. Now if we believe the reports, company has started working on sedan based on Altroz’s platform. Positioning of this sedan is still in question as it could be positioned as entry-level sedan, above Tigor, or as an executive sedan. When launched, it will be a successor of Tata Manza.

The Altroz Sedan

If Altroz sedan is planned as competitor of Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Honda City etc. then we should also note the meager demand of such cars. Currently, this whole segment hardly constitutes 5-7% of total car sales. Honda City, Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna currently rule segment and have established themselves strongly. For Tata Motors, it won’t be easy job to crack their dominance. An exhaustive feature list with reliable and punchy engines is essential to establish this new product from Tata Motors. But just this won’t suffice as company must go creative for ensuring the success in long run. In the same price bracket, currently the C-SUVs are ruling the market. These will be another tough challenge for this new entrant.

Fossil Fuels or EV?

The important aspect of any car is its engine. From the current line up, 1.5 liter diesel engine from Nexon can do the duty under the hood of this, but the 1.2 liter Revotron may not live up to segment standards. As reported earlier, company is readying up 1.5 liter four cylinder turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine for Harrier and Gravitas. The same engine in de-tuned avatar will be the perfect choice for this sedan. Then in this era of electric cars, it is very likely that company will bring out an electric variant as well. With Nexon EV, company as already got an edge over the competition  and has to en-cash this.
