The new-gen Octavia Rs has been showcased globally getting a plug-in hybrid. It gets the design and interiors of the new Octavia. But more importantly for the first time, it gets a hybrid powertrain. The current-gen Octavia RS 245 has been launched in the country on 1st March via the CBU. It has come only in limited 200 numbers and also is priced at 36 lakh (ex-showroom) since its a completely imported car. Find out more details about the new Octavia Rs plug-in hybrid below.

Design of the Octavia RS

The design of the Octavia RS is that of the new-gen Octavia. It no more gets the quad headlamps that is seen on the current-gen Octavia. Rather it gets sleek LED headlamps with LED DRL inlays in them. The rear lights also look similar to the Kodiaq. It also gets RS elements such as 19-inch alloy wheels, twin exhaust tailpipes, a wider front bumper, a black grille, air curtains and rear apron that includes a black diffuser.

Octavia RS interiors

On the inside as well it gets some major changes. The dashboard has been completely reworked and it also gets a new infotainment screen and a completely digital instrument cluster. The overall materials that are used inside have also been improved to give it a premium feel.

Engine and gearbox

The biggest news is the addition of the plug in hybrid engine. It now gets a 1.4 litre turbo petrol that produces 124bhp. Along with that it also gets an electric powertrain that produces another 116bhp. Combined both motors produce 245bhp which is similar to the petrol vRs. This will help it to meet the Euro 6 norms CO2 emissions of about 30g/km. This will also help propel the car from 0-100 in 7.3 seconds and attain a top speed of 245kph. It will also get the petrol and the diesel variants but no details have been revealed for them.

Pricing and competition

The pricing will depend on the way it has been brought to India. If it is brought in the CBU route then it will be priced high like the current RS 245 that has been launched. If the company decides to assemble the parts here then it will be significantly cheaper. The new Octavia is expected to be brought in the country by the end of this year and the RS will be brought in any time soon. It does not have any rivals as such unless you look into the premium segment such as the BMW 330i and the Jaguar XE. Check out our review on the BMW 330i below:
