Bajaj is planning to launch a 250cc bike under the Dominar name. This could be seen as a surprise move to some as this bike was expected to come out in the Pulsar range. Bajaj is acting on its alliance with KTM and bringing the KTMs 250cc engine on the Bajaj Dominar 250. Read on for more details below regarding its launch pricing and other details below.

Overview

The Bajaj Dominar 250 will be similar to the Dominar 400 when you compare it to its KTM counterparts. It will also get a more relaxed seating position to make it more comfortable for long journeys. It will also get a box section swing-arm the overall design of the bike is said to look very similar to that of its elder sibling, the Dominar 400.

Engine and transmission of the Dominar 250

Bajaj will carry forward the 250cc motor of the Duke 250 that produces 29.5 bhp and 24nm of torque from a single-cylinder, fuel-injected OHC unit. These figures are expected to be slightly lesser on the Dominar. It will be mated to a six-speed transmission. It will also get a lesser aggressive engine that produces slightly lower power as compared to the KTMs. The engines will be BS6 compliant.

Bajaj Dominar 250 components

It might not get the digital instrument cluster that the Dominar 400 got on the fuel tank. Bajaj will manufacture many of the components in the country itself to get the costs down so that it can undercut its competitors which will be the Duke 250 and the Husqvarna 250. Even some of the parts such as the switches will be carried over directly from the less pricey bikes such as the Pulsar 200. This will bring down the costs to make the bike. It is also expected to get smaller width tyres than the Dominar and will get 160 section tyres on the rear. Mechanically it could see some changes on the brakes and suspension to keep the costs low.

Launch and pricing

The bike is said to be launched sometime in April. The bike is expected to be priced at around 1.6 lakhs to 1.8 lakhs. From the outside as well it could loose the LED taillights. Check out our review on the Dominar 400 in the meantime:
