It’s been an over a decade, and no rival of Fortuner has overtaken the SUV in terms of sales. But in 2020 Auto Expo we have seen lots of manufacturers, who are willing to explore the segment in India. Specifically, Haval and MG were the attention grabbers. Haval is the Chinese brand owned by the Great wall Motors. Haval showcased brand’s H9 the full-sized SUV at the Expo. As we discover about this full-size SUV, continue reading below.

Exterior

Haval H9

From exterior Haval H9 looks and feels like an old school SUV, somewhat boxy in shape and also has tail mounted spare wheel at the rear. It gets the six-spoke 18-inch wheels. From front it gets the big wide grille, LED headlamps and headlamp integrated DRLs. It measures 4,856 in length, 1,926 mm in width, 1900 mm in height and with 2,800 mm wheelbase.

considering all these dimensions, it is bigger than all of the current SUVs in the segment. However it is little bit smaller than the MG Gloster, which is also showcased at the Expo.

Interior

The Haval H9 is a feature loaded SUV, which will be big USP for the brand while entering India. The China-speced model is equipped with features such as six-airbags, front and rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, rear camera, traction control, hill descent and ascent control, an electronic parking brake, 8-inch infotainment system. Top trim is included with the Panoramic sunroof, heated wipers, automatic headlamps, heated steering, three-zone climate control, etc. The customer will have an option to choose the interior colour scheme, where one could choose the colour of seat leather and the lower dashboard. The Haval H9 is the seven seater, the seats can be configured to increase the boot space of the vehicle.

Powertrain

The Haval H9 China-speced is equipped with the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces around 218 bhp max power and 324 Nm peak torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission as a standard. The vehicle is four-wheel-drive, similar to the rivals. It is expected that the Indian-spec model will be included with the diesel engine, as it is seen in the competition as well.

Price 

The price will be attractive over the rivals. Expected price is around 25-27 lakhs(ex-showroom). It will compete against the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4, Honda CR-V, Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace and Isuzu MU-X. Launch is expected somewhere between Q2 and Q3 of 2021.
