Swift hybrid was recently unveiled by Maruti Suzuki at Auto Expo, Noida. The model showcased was a Japan-spec version, claimed mileage of 32 km/l in the Japanese cycle test. It is expected to make an interesting prospect in the Indian market. To know about the features and price of Maruti Swift Hybrid, keep reading below.

Powertrain

Maruti Swift hybrid was debuted in Japan back in 2017. The hybrid system on the vehicle is different from the Suzuki’s SHVS mild hybrid system, which is seen on Ciaz, Ertiga, XL6 and new Brezza. The hatchback is equipped with the 1.2-litre petrol engine, which produces around 92 bhp power and 118 Nm torque. The engine will be paired with 10 kW electric motor and five-speed Auto gear shift(AGS) gearbox. In India-spec version it is suspected that the 92 bhp 1.2-litre engine will be replaced by regular 82 bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine, seen on Swift, Baleno and Ignis.

This hybrid system automatically stops the internal combustion engine and switches to EV mode when the vehicle is on a slope, constant speed or crawling in traffic. The hatchback’s low weight and the hybrid system makes the vehicle to achieve 32km/l of mileage.

The variant showcased comes equipped with paddle shifters, Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS) collision-mitigating system, laser sensor to detect pedestrians and vehicles ahead, as well as side airbags. However, in India-spec version, these features seem skeptical.

Exterior and Interior

swift hybrid

Exterior is similar to the Indian-spec Swift, one cannot easily differentiate it from the regular petrol swift. Interior too is much or less similar as the regular swift, which includes the touch screen infotainment system, chrome inside door handles, tachometer, etc. It is expected that Hybrid model will posses slightly premium features over the regular Swift.

Price and Launch date of Swift hybrid

The launch is expected to be in late 2020 or early 2021. It is also suspected that it will replace the diesel trims of the Swift, as there is no BS6 diesel engine in Maruti’s current lineup. Price is expected to be premium of Rs 1 lakh to 1.5 lakhs based on the trim. For reference the on-sale swift starts at Rs 5.14 lakhs(ex-showroom).
