Morris Garages has successfully managed to get customers enthusiasm around the brand. After the two successful products in the market, MG will keep the momentum by launching consecutive products in the market. SAIC is planning to bring the set of SUV’s in the Indian market through MG brand.

MG officially teased its big SUV ahead of the Auto Expo. It will be unveiled on fifth of Feb 2020. It will compete against the traditional rival Toyota Fortuner. To know more about the upcoming MG SUV scroll below.

What is MG D90

The full-size body-on-frame SUV, sold under the name D90 in China. It is sold by Maxus, a subsidiary of MG’s parent company SAIC. In India however, it will have differnt name, rumors suggest it will be named as Gloster.  The SUV measures 5,005 mm in length, 1,932 mm in width and 1,875 mm in height. The wheelbase measures 2,950 mm, with all these dimensions, it is the segment leader in terms of size.

MG D90

The international model of Maxus D90 gets a double wishbone suspension at the front and a five-link setup at the rear. It offers massive 210 mm of ground clearance and standard 19-inch alloy wheels and 21-inch wheels on the top-trim. However, in India it might not get those massive wheels but might offered with 18-inch wheels. In Chinese market, the D90 has option of various seating configurations, however India-spec SUV is expected to have three-row layout with a seven or eight seat configuration.

Features

The international variant is equipped with adaptive LED headlight, LED DRLs, panoramic sun-roof, heated ORVMs, gesture controlled tailgate, three zone climate control, an 12.3-inch touch-display infotainment system, 8.0-inch instrument cluster. The upholstery is premium quality with leather finished seats offering ventilation and massage functions.

In terms of safety, the Maxus D90 has been awarded a five-star rating in the Australia NCAP crash. It gets six-airbags, ESP, brake assist hill descent and hold control. It gets a tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree parking camera.

Powertrain

Globally it is offered only with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol variant. However in India it might also get a BS6 complaint diesel option. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol produces around 220 bhp max power at 5500 rpm and 350 Nm peak torque at 4000 rpm.

The engine comes mated with six-speed manual and optional six-speed automatic gearbox. It will have option of four wheel drive and rear wheel drive. The top trim will have option of selectable drive modes such as sports, sand, eco-mode, etc.

Price

It is expected to launch with proposition above the six-seater MG Hector. The price is expected to be attractive over the rivals. It is expected to be launch at Rs 26-27 lakhs(ex-showroom).

It is expected to launch in Q4 of 2020 or early 2021. The MG SUV will compete against the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4, Toyota Fortuner and Isuzu MU-X.
