What is MG MPV

MG is the bit late in the segment of MPVs. However, it might have different offerings in the market. The spotted MG MPV is currently sold in China and South-East Asia as the Maxus G10. Maxus is the UV brand under SAIC, however, in India it will be badged as MG. Internationally it is available in 7,9 and 10 seat configurations. However, the Indian version might be constrained with the 7-seater variant.

Design / Aesthetics

The MG MPV is pretty straightforward in terms of design. It gets horizontal grille finished in the chrome and split-head-lamp setup. The middle passenger door will be sliding type. It will have slightly smaller alloy wheels compared to MG Hector.

The design language will somehow remind you of Mercedes-Benz V-class.

MG Engine

MG MPV might have similar engine options as the MG Hector- 1.5-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel, 1.5-litre petrol hybrid. Hector’s 1.5-litre petrol produces 141 bhp max power at 5000 rpm and 250 Nm peak torque at 1600 rpm. While the 2.0-diesel produces 169 bhp max power at 3750 rpm and 350 Nm peak torque at 1750 rpm. The engine is mated with a six-speed manual gearbox or optional DCT gearbox available only in petrol.

Features

MG MPV might get many features similar to MG Hector which includes internet connectivity options, ESP, hill ascent control, 360-degree camera. It might have options of six airbags, sun-roof, touch screen infotainment etc. The upholstery is expected to be premium with leather finish seats.

Price

As MG will be launching six-seater MG Hector, so it will be interesting to see where this MPV will sit in terms of the offering. It is expected to come with premium features over Maruti Ertiga. We expect it to be priced between the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova. The price might be around Rs 12 lakhs to Rs 14 lakhs(ex-showroom).

The MG MPV will compete against Mahindra Marazzo, Toyota Innova and recently launched Kia Carnival
