The Tata Altroz has been recently launched and was successful in creating hype by being only the second car to be made in the country to get a 5-star safety rating. The car is a premium hatchback and gets a host of segment-leading features along with a completely new platform. The company has also launched the Tata Nexon EV along with the previously launched Tigor EV. Tata has previously said about its dedication to a greener environment, and it proving so with the upcoming Altroz EV.

Altroz EV Battery and Range

Tata has said that the Altroz EV will get a range of around 250 kms, which means that the battery will be smaller than that of the Nexon EV. Therefore the power figures could also be around 100Bhp and 200nm of torque, but since it will be lighter than the Nexon, the performance will not be as bad when compared. Fast charging will be made available on the car and will be able to charge from 0-80% in about an hour. It will have a permanent magnet ac motor paired to a single-speed gearbox.

Changes from the regular Altroz

There will be some minor updates on the outside as does happen with most EV vehicles. The grill will be definitely changed as well as subtle differences in terms of overall styling, and it will get a new set of alloy wheels as well to differentiate it from the regular Altroz. From the inside as well it is expected to get a revised instrument cluster and a new gear knob selector with a few changes on the dashboard and will also get some additional features with the increase in its price.

Tata’s vision for EVs

Tata plans to dominate the EV market in the future and is going to showcase four EV vehicles in the Auto Expo 2020 including the Altroz EV, with other manufacturers still manipulating their first EV launch in India. Tata plans to build the EV infrastructure in India for this. It has launched its own electric ecosystem called the Tata UniEVerse, which will include public charging stations, battery manufacturing facilities, sales networks, and financing.

Cost and expected launch

The Tata Altroz EV is slated to launch only next year but will be showcased around the other three EV products that Tata will showcase in the Auto Expo and will launch it in the country.  Sadly EV products cost high to produce and therefore they are expensive to buy, with the Nexon EV costing 14 lakh(ex-showroom), the Tata Altroz is expected to be priced around the 12 lakh mark according to us and will definitely above 10 lakhs as quoted from Tata officials itself.
