Fortuner BS6 engines

Speculations suggested that Toyota could discontinue the pioneered 2.8-litre diesel that was the signature dish of the Toyota Fortuner , as with the introduction of the BS6 engines this would prove to get very expensive for Toyota and would lead to a significant price bump.

We strongly believe that Toyota will continue to sell this engine. The Innova Crysta has a different kind of consumer base that is mainly focusing on the practicality of the car, as well as its comfort.

But the customers of the Fortuner are ready to pay that extra sum of money to have a commanding SUV with a massive engine on the road.

Engine specifications and transmission

The 2.8-litre diesel engine outsells the petrol engine but more importantly, adds to the appeal of the car. Therefore, Toyota would not want to affect the sales of one of its more popular products of the Indian consumers that are used by a wide range of customers. It is also known for its offroad capabilities and eating up the highway miles with ease in its huge engine. Also, the rivals of the Fortuner BS6 such as the Endeavor also has a massive diesel engine, and Toyota will not want its customer base to shift to this product. The current engine options in the Fortuner are the 2.7 petrol and the 2.8 litre diesel, but it is seen that people in this segment favour a diesel engine over a petrol one.

The 2.7 petrol engine produces 164 bhp and 245nm of torque, while the 2.

8-litre diesel engine produces 174 bhp and an impressive 420nm of torque which really adds to the performance of the car. When mated to an automatic gearbox the car produces 450nm of torque. The Fortuner BS6 is available in both manuals as well as CVT variants in both engines. On the inside as well the outside, Toyota is expected not to change much in terms of dashboard design or features and therefore there will be no updates brought alongside the BS6 engine. Both engines will come with rear-wheel as well as all-wheel drive options

Rivals of the Fortuner BS6

We expect that there will be a significant price bump on the Fortuner, especially on the diesel versions. Its main rival is the Ford Endeavor along with the Alturas G4. Some dealerships have already started accepting bookings on the Fortuner with a booking amount of 50,000. Check out our review on the Fortuner:
