Things sure seem to be heating up in the electric scooter market in India with TVS launching the all-new iQube electric scooter starting at 1.15L on-road Bengaluru. This will directly go against the Bajaj Chetak and the Ather 450. It is to be sold initially in Bengaluru, its home market and is expected to soon be available in the metro cities.

TVS iQube features

The scooter comes loaded with features such as a complete LED instrument display which will house the next-gen TVS SmartXonnect platform by the company. This will have features such as geo-fencing, remote battery charge status, navigation assist, last park location, and incoming call alerts/SMS alerts. It has a futuristic design with a sleek led strip on the front along with LED taillamps and DRLs. It also has dual driving modes as well as regenerative braking.

iQube battery

It comes with 4.5kwh battery that is good for 75kms and puts out around 6bhp and 140nm of torque. This propels it from 0-40kmph in 4.2 seconds, with the top speed being a respectable 78kmph. It is let down by its charging capabilities at it does not come equipped with fast charging and will take around 5 hours to be fully charged.

Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company, said, “TVS Motor is driven by Customer-Centric Innovation. As India moves ahead, its mobility solutions would increasingly be total experience-led, nowhere is this felt sharper than among the youth of India. Our focus on the ‘Green & Connected’ youth of India, is embodied, in the first of the TVS Electric portfolio. TVS iQube Electric is a blend of an advanced electric drivetrain and the next-gen TVS SmartXonnect platform.”

It can be booked by a token amount of 5000 through the company’s website itself from January 27, with TVS announcing to improve the charging facilities available. Sadly it will be only available in a white color scheme for now. It will be interesting to see if the iQube can establish alongside the other scooters in the market.
