After the success of Nexon as compact SUV, Tata is ready to take another step in Micro SUV segment. Tata H2 or Hornbill (internally refered name) will be the micro SUV offering from the manufacturer. What is H2

H2 was first seen as the concept in Geneva motor show in 2019 along with Altroz, Altroz EV and Gravitas. Among them, Altroz made its way to production recently. While H2 will start the production pretty soon. It was recently spotted testing near Tata manufacturing unit in Pune. Tata H2 will be much closer to its prototype. It is due to Tata’s previous models were closer to prototype.

Tata H2 Features

Tata H2 is based on the Alfa – Arc platform. This platform is currently shared by recently launched Altroz. So it is expected to have similar underpinnings with Altroz. It will have many components from Tata Altroz – engine, switches, floating touch screen infotainment, sterring wheels, etc.

As seen from the spy shots it will clearly have split LED headlamp setup. And a flat wide hood for more commanding seating position and aesthetics. Dimensions of the vehicle will be as follows – length 3840 mm, width 1822 mm, height 1636 mm.

Tata H2 Engine

The current 1.2 litre three cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine (Revotron BS6) produces 86 PS of maximum power at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak Torque at 3300 rpm. The engine might get some tweaks for the upcoming Tata H2. Engine will be mated to 5 speed manual and optional 5 speed Automatic manual transmission. Diesel engine still in suspicion, due to market shift towards petrol.

Price and Rivals

Pricing is expected to positioned below B segment hatchback. Price of the Tata H2 is expected to be around 5 lack (ex-showroom). It will compete against KUV 1OO , Ignis and upcoming Hyundai AX. Considering the upcoming launches of micro SUVs, Maruti will launch facelifted Ignis to compete against rivals.
